Format No. 1 --- Foo/Skou proudly present Format No. 1 - a novel optical sound experience that consists of an iPhone application and a visual score. Download the visual score and turn graphics into sound! Or look for visual patterns elsewhere and explore how everything in the world can be musical. Format No. 1 is inspired by optical sound experiments from history and existing notation systems. Download the visual score and learn more about Format No. 1 at formatno1.com How the Format No. 1 app works: - converts a real-time camera feed to sound - reads on a vertical scan line - The user can scan in any direction and at any speed he/she wishes to - Translates black pixels to a range of frequencies in pentatonic scale (From low pitch in the bottom of the screen to high pitch in the top) - is open-source and created with openFrameworks The application has been developed by artists and musicians Louise Foo and Martha Skou in collaboration with programmer Johann Diedrick.
